EPA & TECHNICAL TIPS: TRAINING TIPS with the Uni-ram UM120W gun washer

When a shop is deciding to convert to waterborne, equipment purchases are a necessary part of the equation. A Uni-ram waterborne gun cleaner keeps your shop running smoothly while reducing your waterborne waste. Using this system offers advantages to the shop by forcefully cleaning the gun, and easily treating the water waste afterwards. The EPA has stated that waterborne cleaning water must be treated as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly, not dumped down a sink.

1. Mix the enclosed bottle of Aqua Kleen concentrate with distilled water. This solution will cut waterborne paint better than water alone. Minerals found in tap water can leave deposits in the gun.

2. Clean the gun as soon as possible. Once dried, waterborne paint is very difficult to remove.

3. Remove excess paint from the spray gun prior to cleaning, this shortens cleaning time and uses less cleaning solution.

4. Place the water tool in the paint inlet, aim the spray gun inside the capture tube, and pull both triggers to flush gun clean. The supplied whip hose mixes air with the cleaning solution to scrub out the fluid passage.

5. Inspect the air cap and fluid tip, and remove any deposits with the soft bristled flow through brush.

6. Thoroughly dry all passages with the blow gun, with special attention given to threaded surfaces.

7. Disassemble gun and lube surfaces per manufacturer directions when finished for the day.

8. The waste water is treated by adding two scoops of the supplied flocculant, agitated for five minutes, and filtered for re-use. Dispose of paint solids per local regulations.

9. The new Uni-ram heater, PN UWHLEX, is an excellent retrofit to assist in cleaning guns with dried waterborne paint, and remove coatings faster.
